Escape the bustling streets of Kathmandu and immerse yourself in the tranquil wilderness of Shivapuri National Park, one of Nepal's most beautiful protected areas. Located on the northern edge of the Kathmandu Valley, this full-day hiking adventure combines pristine forests, Buddhist monasteries, rich biodiversity, and breathtaking Himalayan scenery. Whether you are a first-time visitor or an experienced traveler seeking a refreshing outdoor experience, the Shivapuri Day Hike offers an ideal balance of nature, culture, and adventure within easy reach of the city.
The journey begins with a scenic drive from your hotel in Kathmandu to Budhanilkantha, the gateway to Shivapuri National Park. After completing the park entry formalities, your guided hike starts along well-maintained forest trails surrounded by oak, rhododendron, pine, and bamboo forests.
The trail gradually ascends through peaceful woodland, providing opportunities to observe native birds, butterflies, and wildlife while your experienced guide shares insights into the park's ecology and local culture. One of the highlights is the visit to the peaceful Nagi Gompa, a Tibetan Buddhist monastery where visitors can enjoy panoramic views of Kathmandu Valley.
Depending on the selected itinerary and fitness level of the group, the hike may continue towards Bagdwar, the sacred source of the Bagmati River, before descending back to Budhanilkantha for the return drive to Kathmandu.
Let's customize this itinerary as per your time and budget, as you like.
