The adventure begins with a drive from Kathmandu to Besisahar before continuing on an exciting off-road journey through Syange, Jagat, Dharapani, Chame, Pisang, Humde, and Braga. As the road climbs higher into the Himalayas, travelers are rewarded with spectacular views of Annapurna II, Annapurna III, Gangapurna, Lamjung Himal, Pisang Peak, Chulu East, and several other snow-capped mountains. Your journey begins early in the morning with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Chame by private or shared 4WD jeep. The route follows the Prithvi Highway before heading through Besisahar and Dharapani into the Annapurna region. Along the way, enjoy beautiful views of lush green hills, terraced farmlands, rivers, waterfalls, and traditional mountain villages. After approximately 10–12 hours of driving, arrive at Chame (2,670 m), the administrative headquarters of Manang District, where you will spend the night.
Today's drive is one of the most spectacular sections of the journey. Leaving Chame, the road climbs gradually through forests of pine and juniper before reaching Upper Pisang, where breathtaking panoramic views of Annapurna II, Pisang Peak, and the surrounding snow-covered mountains unfold. Continuing through the picturesque settlements of Humde and Braga, you pass traditional stone houses, ancient Buddhist chortens, colorful prayer flags, and centuries-old monasteries that reflect the rich Tibetan Buddhist heritage of the region.
A visit to Braga Monastery, one of the oldest monasteries in the Annapurna region, provides insight into local spiritual traditions. Soon afterward, the beautiful village of Manang appears beneath the towering peaks of Gangapurna, Annapurna III, and Tilicho Peak. The afternoon is free to explore the village, enjoy fresh Himalayan cuisine, and acclimatize to the higher elevation. Overnight stay in Manang.
Enjoy a relaxed morning in Manang with time to explore the village or take a short hike to Gangapurna Lake or a nearby viewpoint for stunning panoramic views of the surrounding peaks. After lunch, begin your return journey by jeep, retracing the scenic route through Braga and Humde to Pisang or continue further to Chame, depending on your overnight destination. Enjoy another peaceful evening surrounded by the beauty of the Annapurna region.
After an early breakfast, begin the drive back to Kathmandu. The journey follows the same scenic route through Dharapani and Besisahar before joining the Prithvi Highway. Enjoy the changing landscapes as you descend from the mountains to the valleys, arriving in Kathmandu by evening with unforgettable memories of your short Himalayan adventure in the beautiful Manang region.
