Perched at an elevation of 2,175 meters, Nagarkot is renowned for its breathtaking sunrise, panoramic Himalayan views, and peaceful countryside. The hike takes you through charming villages, terraced farmlands, pine forests, and traditional rural landscapes, making it an excellent choice for travelers seeking a combination of nature, culture, and mountain scenery.
Your journey begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Nagarkot, a popular hill station located about 32 kilometers east of the capital. Depending on your itinerary, you may begin the hike after enjoying the famous sunrise over the Himalayas.
The trail winds through peaceful forests, traditional Tamang and Newar villages, terraced fields, and quiet country roads, offering an authentic glimpse into rural life around the Kathmandu Valley. Along the route, you'll enjoy fresh mountain air, beautiful landscapes, and numerous viewpoints perfect for photography.
On clear days, hikers are rewarded with magnificent views of the Himalayan range, including Everest, Langtang, Ganesh Himal, Gaurishankar, Dorje Lakpa, and many other peaks stretching across the horizon.
Depending on the chosen route, the hike may finish at Changunarayan Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, or return to Nagarkot before driving back to Kathmandu.
